Perthshire
and beyond

Perthshire is one of Scotland’s
most beautiful areas. Its mountains,
lochs, rivers and woodlands are justifiably famous, and it also has a vast
range of sites of historical and other interest, including prehistoric
monoliths and stone circles, the Crannog centre on Loch Tay, Wade’s Bridge at
Aberfeldy and the Hermitage near Dunkeld.
There are unmatched opportunities for painting and photography, as the
large number of galleries featuring works by local artists shows.

For those interested in
walking, climbing or mountaineering, many challenges are available at all
levels of difficulty. The lochs and
rivers provide game fishing, as well as sailing, windsurfing, waterskiing and
canoeing. Local golf courses are
plentiful and generally inexpensive and free from congestion, while there are
also top-quality courses at places such as Gleneagles and Taymouth Castle. Restaurants and coffee shops abound, many
making excellent use of high-quality local produce.

The towns of Perth and Stirling are
within 25 miles of Comrie, with Glasgow and Edinburgh both just over an hour’s
drive away. The easiest way of visiting
either city is probably to get the train from Dunblane – there is a frequent
service to both. Fife is also easily
accessible – St. Andrews is about an hour by
car, and the picturesque fishing villages of Crail, Anstruther and Pittenweem
are not much further.
